ROMA (2018) - Movie Review

ROMA (2018)

Is there a well-knit movie like a classic tapestry hand made out of wool and silk? Is there a well-crafted movie painted nudging and nudging over years to become a Salvator mundi? Is there a movie like a classic car made out by the precise hand work of an iron smith?

We are talking about “Roma” (2018) – a Spanish movie made by Alfonso Cuaron

“Roma” could fit in possessing all the qualities of a well-knit movie made since decades. It has multiple layers of stories and themes carved out like the different details of a sthoopam, that could stand alone as a different movie experience fulfilling the structures of a complete cinema. The color which Alfonso use to narrate the movie is something incredible as it signifies the standalone feature of one of the layers which contributed its classiness to the movies. Any frame paused could be read as a beautiful realistic painting with its vastness and abundance of the details and the natural light cast on to the characters and the objects on the scene.

The story arc could be divided into different phases, each sections could stand alone as a different movie experience.

We could start with the opening scene of cleaning the tiled floor followed by the introduction of  Cleo, Sophia and the Family, Sophia's husbands introduction and his separation, Cleo's love story, the riot scene and the crib shop, hospital delivery room scene, beach trip and cleo saving the kids and the final come back home scene.
